International Development
Historically, the public and private sectors have had an uneasy relationship. Companies have struggled to earn their “license to operate” from critical stakeholders including customers, employees, and communities. In contrast, international development organizations, nonprofits and governments have been wary of the intentions of the private sector, unsure of how to effectively engage with it.
However, there is a growing awareness in both camps that the private sector can be a partner for development, and that both sectors have unique strengths and competencies to bring to bear. Consequently, the public sector is trying to determine how to use private sector engagement to drive development outcomes, while the private sector is trying to create social impact in a way that aligns with the bottom line. Ultimately, international development organizations and companies are asking:
- How can we utilize private sector methods to drive development outcomes?
- How can the private and public sector partner effectively to generate more social impact?
- What is the most effective and practical way to measure and communicate our results?
To answer these questions, Mission Measurement works with international development organizations to identify effective strategies for generating social outcomes. Additionally, we help clients measure and communicate their results.
Measurement-Driven Strategy engagements create opportunities to create clarity around core development outcomes, align strategies to support these outcomes, and assess the effectiveness of these strategies. Working with Mission Measurement, organizations can articulate what results they hope to achieve and use these objectives as a platform for strategy development. This work is designed to exploit the link between measurement and strategy. Measurement enables organizations to determine ‘what’s working’ and respond accordingly.
Partnership Strategy engagements leverage Mission Measurement’s relationships with corporations, key government agencies and nonprofit organizations.
